As of July 9, 2019, Microsoft no longer supports SQL Server 2008 R2 or earlier. Therefore, as of the v.2019.2.0 Accounting CS release, your firm must have SQL Server 2012 or higher installed on the servers that run Accounting CS to retrieve this update and any application updates beyond the v.2019.2.0 release. For more information, see How to handle the end of SQL 2008 in Accounting CS .

Notes

  • This change does not affect firms using Accounting CS via Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS).
  • There are a number of reminders and alerts within the application for firms who have not yet upgraded to SQL Server 2012 or higher. Details
    • An alert displays when Accounting CS is opened.
    • An alert message displays in red, linked text in the bottom-right corner of the application.
    • Attempts to access CS Connect will prompt an alert to display.

In January 2020, Microsoft will end support for Windows 7. Because Thomson Reuters cannot support customers using our applications on unsupported operating systems, starting on January 14, 2020, Accounting CS will no longer be supported on Windows 7. We strongly recommend that you upgrade your workstations to a supported operating system soon. For more information, see End of Support for Windows 7.

Import of client data from QuickBooks Online

  • We have enhanced the authorization protocol that Accounting CS uses to communicate with QuickBooks Online. Details
    • After this update, you will need to reconnect each client that uses the QuickBooks Online integration to their corresponding QuickBooks Online company.
    • Intuit will require this new authorization protocol starting on December 17, 2019, so you will need to use Accounting CS v.2019.3.3 or higher to use the QuickBooks Online integration after that date.

General - Payroll

  • We have addressed an issue that caused the application to calculate resident state withholding incorrectly when the Nexus checkbox wasn't marked and all earnings were earned in another state.

Accounting CS Payroll, for live payroll processing

In addition to any changes made for general payroll features listed above for after-the-fact payroll processing, the following changes have been made for the live payroll processing features specific to Accounting CS Payroll.

  • We have addressed an issue that prevented Accounting CS from backing up certain client data via the File > Client Data Management Utility. Details
This issue occurred during attempts to back up client data that contained certain impounding transactions using the Backup for another firm action in the File > Client Data Management Utility screen.
  • South Carolina. We have updated Accounting CS to enable you to make direct deposit child support payments. Details
The state has established a centralized State Disbursement Unit (SDU) which enables them to receive direct deposit child support payments. This update enables you to make child support payments to the new SDU via direct deposit.
  • For every release, be sure to check the Updates for payroll tax rates, limits, and minimum wage rates (year to date) article to stay on top of changes that may affect your firm and clients.

Payroll compliance

94x client PIN enrollment and filing. This is a reminder that we are phasing out 94x client PIN filing. You can no longer transmit 94x client PIN enrollment files, and in a future release, we will remove this filing method entirely. To avoid any delays in electronically filing your clients' 94x returns, we continue to strongly recommend that you register as a reporting agent as soon as possible.

Updates for payroll tax forms, tax agents, and new hire files

Accounting CS includes two interactive tools that provide valuable payroll tax information.
