As of July 9, 2019, Microsoft no longer supports SQL Server 2008 R2 or earlier. Therefore, as of the v.2019.2.0 Accounting CS release, your firm must have SQL Server 2012 or higher installed on the servers that run Accounting CS to retrieve this update and any application updates beyond the v.2019.2.0 release. For more information, see How to handle the end of SQL 2008 in Accounting CS .

Notes

  • This change does not affect firms using Accounting CS via Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS).
  • There are a number of reminders and alerts within the application for firms who have not yet upgraded to SQL Server 2012 or higher. Details
    • An alert displays when Accounting CS is opened.
    • An alert message displays in red, linked text in the bottom-right corner of the application.
    • Attempts to access CS Connect will prompt an alert to display.

In January 2020, Microsoft will end support for Windows 7. Because Thomson Reuters cannot support customers using our applications on unsupported operating systems, starting on January 14, 2020, Accounting CS will no longer be supported on Windows 7. We strongly recommend that you upgrade your workstations to a supported operating system soon. For more information, see End of Support for Windows 7.

General

  • We have removed the Accounting CS News portlet from several dashboards. Details
We have removed the Accounting CS News portlet from the Home Dashboard, Firm Dashboard, Staff Dashboard, and Client Dashboard, as well as their corresponding Select Portlets dialogs. The content for that portlet was pulled from an antiquated, and now discontinued, RSS feed.
  • We have added the Journal field in the Options dialog available from the Bank Feeds portlet in the Bank Feeds Dashboard. (Accounting CS Ideas Community #2482). Details
The journal you select here will be assigned to the transactions when they are approved and imported.
  • We have updated a large number of dialogs to open on the monitor from which they were accessed, rather than opening on the primary monitor by default.

Accounting

  • We have improved the account number validation that occurs during chart of accounts import (via the File > Import > Spreadsheet wizard) for client records with certain types of segmented account masks.

Reports

  • We have updated the following payroll reports.
    • Data Entry Worksheet
    • Employee List - Detailed

The reports have been updated to display either the 2019 (or prior) W-4 details or the 2020 (or newer) W-4 details for employees, based on selections made in the updated Federal Withholding section in the Payroll Taxes tab of the Setup > Employees screen.

Note: If your firm has modified the predefined version of a report, Accounting CS will not overwrite your existing report with an updated version. If this is the case, you will need to make the necessary changes to your customized report manually, or you will need to restore the latest predefined version using the Report Designer. To do the latter, select the report from the Reports list pane in the Report Designer and then choose File > Restore Default.

Report Designer

  • We have added variables to the Employee > Federal Withholding section and the Payroll > Check > Employee Federal Withholding section of the variable tree. Details
    • Claim Dependents
    • Deductions
    • Other Income
    • Two Jobs Total
    • Use 2020 (or Newer) W-4

Layout Designer

  • We have added variables to the Payroll > Check > Employee Federal Withholding section of the variable tree for payroll check layouts. Details
    • Claim Dependents
    • Deductions
    • Other Income
    • Two Jobs Total
    • Use 2020 (or Newer) W-4

    • We have updated the fields in the Federal Withholding section in the Payroll Taxes tab of the Setup > Employees screen. The new fields correspond to the updated Form W-4, which you will need to fill out for any new employees as of January 1, 2020.
    • We have added a dialog in which you can view and modify W-4 information for employees using the 2019 (or prior) version of the Form W-4.
    • For firms using Employee Self-Service, the new fields for 2020 W-4 information are available in the NetClient CS portal. Any changes to employee W-4 information need to be made using the 2020 W-4 form.
For more information, see New 2020 Form W-4 information.
  • Effective in 2020, the IRS requires that non-employee compensation be reported on the new Form 1099-NEC instead of on Form 1099-MISC. Accordingly, we are taking actions to provide support for the new Form 1099-NEC. Details
    • You can now select 1099-NEC in the Form Selection grid in the 1099 Properties tab of the Setup > Vendors screen for a vendor that is specified as a 1099 Recipient.
    • You can now select Form 1099-NEC as the 1099 type in the Actions > Enter Transactions screen when you enter a check for a vendor that is specified as a 1099 Recipient.
    • Transactions for independent contractor employees dated on or after January 1, 2020, will automatically be reported to the appropriate boxes on Form 1099-NEC rather than on Form 1099-MISC.
    • We will release Form 1099-NEC in a future update. Currently, the IRS has published only a draft version of the form.
  • We have added the ability to update employee information during the employee spreadsheet import (via the File > Import > Spreadsheet wizard). (Accounting CS Ideas Community #3283). Details
New import options enable you to update varying setup and rate information for multiple employees. For example, you can change the rate of a deduction item to a different amount for each of the employees. For more information, see Spreadsheet import - updating employee data.
  • We have added the Employer pays full employee PMFL share checkbox in the Payroll Taxes tab of the Setup > Clients screen for Massachusetts and Washington clients. (Accounting CS Ideas Community #3236 and #2915) Details
If a client wishes to pay all of the employee portion of the premium, mark the Employer pays full employee PFML share checkbox in the Payroll Taxes tab of the Setup > Clients screen. For more information about Massachusetts or Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave, see Massachusetts FLI calculations or Washington FLI calculations, respectively.
