COVID-19 changes
- We have updated Form 941 and the electronic file to the latest version released by the IRS for tax processing periods 6/30/2020, 9/30/2020, and 12/31/2020. See the Form 941 2020: Covid-19 changes article for details about the changes and additions that were made to the form.
- We have added two sections to the COVID-19 Acts tab of the Setup > Clients screen to help you enter 2020 Form 941 information for quarters 2, 3, and 4.
- Form 7200 Advance Payment Information. Use this section to record any advance payments requested that should be reported on Form 941.
- Federal 94x Information. Use this section to record any qualified health plan expenses that should be allocated to the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) related wages and reported on Form 941.
- We have added the 7200 Worksheet – COVID-19 custom report to the Accounting CS Library.
- We have added variables to the Client > COVID-19 Acts Information section of the variable tree. Details
- We have disabled the Payroll Tax Form option (accessible via the Actions > Analyze Client Activity menu) when 2020 is selected as the Form 941 processing year in the Actions > Edit Payroll Tax Forms screen. Details
General
- We are excited to announce the launch of the next generation of idea collection with our new platform, the Idea Incubator. Import of client data from QuickBooks Online
- We have addressed an issue that, in certain circumstances, caused an error to occur during attempts to import from QuickBooks Online or export to QuickBooks Online. Details
Accounting CS Payroll, for live payroll processing
In addition to any changes made for general payroll features listed above for after-the-fact payroll processing, the following changes have been made for the live payroll processing features specific to Accounting CS Payroll.
- For every release, be sure to check the Updates for payroll tax rates, limits, and minimum wage rates (year to date) article to stay on top of changes that may affect your firm and clients.
Payroll compliance
- As of July 1, 2020, you will no longer be able to file 94x returns as an electronic return originator (ERO) using individual client PINs in Accounting CS. We strongly recommend that you register as a reporting agent as soon as possible to avoid any delays in electronically filing your clients' 94x returns. Details

Accounting CS includes two interactive tools that provide valuable payroll tax information.
- The Payroll Form and Filing Information portlet provides information on federal, state, and certain local tax agents in the Home Dashboard or Firm Dashboard.
- The State-specific payroll tax form information article provides information on state payroll tax forms, processing tips, due dates, filing methods, agency information, tax payment details, state ID formats, e-filing notes, new hire reporting requirements, and more.
