Use the Default Filing Instructions Options dialog to specify (for paper and non-paper filing methods) that you want to print filing instructions by default with the filing copy, the client copy, all copies, or not at all. This setting affects all clients, but you can modify the setting at either the client-level or at print time.

Choose Setup > Firm Information > Firm, click the Preferences tab, and then click the Ellipsis Ellipsis button button in the Payroll Tax Forms section.

Fields & Buttons

Use the drop-down fields to specify, for both the Paper and Non-Paper filing methods, which copies of payroll tax forms should prompt the application to print filing instructions by default.

  • Paper filing methods. Use the drop-down list to specify when the application should print filing instructions for forms processed via Paper filing methods

    Note: Paper filing methods include Paper, Preprinted, Preprinted with labels, and Web fill-in. In addition, payment forms are treated by the application as Paper filing method.

    • All. Print the form filing instructions when any copy of the form is printed.
    • Client copy. Print the form filing instructions only when the client copy is printed.
    • Filing copy. Print the form filing instructions only when the filing copy is printed.
    • None. Never print the form filing instructions.
  • Non-paper filing methods. Use the drop-down list to specify when the application should print filing instructions for forms processed via Non-paper filing methods

    Note: Non-Paper filing methods include Electronic, Electronic with payment, Internet, Internet with payment, Magnetic, and Magnetic with payment.

    • All. Print the form filing instructions when any copy of the form is printed using a non-paper filing method.
    • Client copy. Print the form filing instructions only when the client copy is printed.
    • Filing copy. Print the form filing instructions only when the filing copy is printed.
    • None. Never print the form filing instructions for forms using a non-paper filing method.
