CBS Connect updates failed. You may also get one of the following messages:

If the CBS Connect updates have failed to apply, you will have to delete the updates and uninstall the application, reinstall, and then re-download the updates.

It is recommended to download the sample data during the reinstall process and use the CBS Sample Company to update the application. You can download the Client Bookkeeping Solution Sample Data on the CBS website.

For a Standalone Install:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, go into the Control Panel and then into Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Highlight Client Bookkeeping Solution and click on Remove to uninstall the application from your computer.
  3. Reinstall the latest CBS CD to the original path (e.g. C:\Program Files\Client Bookkeeping Solution) following the steps in Installing CBS to a standalone computer.

If you do not have access to the latest CBS CD, you can download it by clicking here.

  1. Re-download the Connect updates. Before you do this step, you will want to make sure there are no other applications running (including some anti-virus software settings) that would interfere with the download/apply process.

Note: Be aware that uninstalling the application does not delete any of your data or layouts.

For a Network Install:

  1. Go into My Computer/Windows Explorer and browse to where the application is installed. The default location would be X:\CBS\Program Files\Client Bookkeeping Solution (where X represents your network drive), but you can right-click on the CBS icon and choose Properties to find where the application is installed (target).
  2. The default data path would be X:\CBS\Data and the default layouts path would be X:\CBS\Layouts. Copy the Data folder and the Layouts folder to a temporary location (e.g. your Desktop).
  3. Delete the CBS folder which will get rid of all of the application files (which is why you need to copy the Data and the Layouts folder to another temporary location in the step above this one).
  4. Reinstall CBS back to X:\CBS. Make sure the install path is X:\CBS and not X:\CBS\Program Files\Client Bookkeeping Solution because whatever install path you choose, the application will create a Program Files folder and a Client Bookkeeping Solution folder inside of that for you if it does not already exist. Follow the steps in Network administrator installation for CBS and then Installing CBS from the network administrator installation (desktop setup) for the desktop installation.
