Use the following information to retrieve your clients' CBS ASP data files.

Notes

  • As of 1/1/2018, access to CBS ASP was removed from our online environment.
  • CBS ASP client files can only be opened in the desktop version of CBS if one of the following is true:
    • The CBS client was originally created in a desktop version of CBS (with desktop licensing).
    • CSA is installed in the same location as the desktop version of CBS.
  • Support for CSA and CBS ended on June 1, 2017. These steps are supplied as-is and we cannot offer any additional assistance.

You must have Admin privileges within your NetStaff portal to obtain the CBS ASP data.

  1. In your NetStaff portal, click Admin, and then click Users in the NetClient CS section.

    Note: If your firm used Virtual Office CBSW and you are retrieving your own files, launch Microsoft Excel, Outlook, or Word from your own NetStaff CS portal and skip to step 6.

  2. Select your NetClient CS user and then click View Portal.
  3. Click Applications on the top left.
  4. Select a client from the Data Location field.
  5. If available in the client's portal, launch Microsoft Excel or Word. Otherwise, launch Microsoft Outlook. If Outlook is not configured, follow these steps
    1. At the Welcome to Outlook 2016 screen, click Next.
    2. In the next screen, select No in response to the "Do you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account" question.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Mark the Use Outlook without an email account checkbox.
    5. Click Finish.

  6. Choose File > Open and then double-click on This PC. If you're using Outlook, click the New Email button, click Attach File, and then double-click on This PC.
  7. Expand Computer.
  8. Expand the wincsi drive.
  9. Expand the cbs folder.
  10. Expand the DATA folder.
  11. Highlight the company file and then choose Organize > Copy (or use CTRL + C on your keyboard). The file will be the company name with a .cbs extension.
  12. On the left side of the screen, click the C$ (\\Client) (V:) drive.
  13. Browse to a folder on your local computer where you want to save the file.
  14. Choose Organize > Paste (or use CTRL + V on your keyboard).
  15. Repeat these steps for each client.

After all of your CBS ASP clients have been saved locally, you can open them by double-clicking on the CBS file, or by opening CBS and choosing File > Open Company.

If you see a message that says "This Company is licensed for ASP and can be opened only in the ASP environment", CSA must be installed in the same location as CBS to open the CBS company.

Installing CBS

  1. In your internet browser, navigate to www.cbsdownload.com.
  2. In the CBS 2007.1.15 Installation section, click the Download Now link.
  3. When the download is complete, right-click on the cbsdownload.exe file and choose Run as Administrator.
  4. Follow the prompts in the installation. Note that you MUST install the Sample Data.
  5. Open CBS and choose File > Open Company and select the Checkwriter Sample Company (leave the password blank).
  6. Choose File > Update CBS to download and install the CBS Connect Updates. If the updates fail, close CBS, right-click the CBS icon and choose Run as Administrator. This will reopen the application and attempt to apply updates again.
  7. Open the company files you saved from CBS ASP in the previous section.

Notes

  • The last version of CBS is 2007.1.23.
  • You may need to set CBS to always Run as Administrator by right-clicking the CBS icon, choosing Properties, and marking the Run this program as an administrator checkbox on the Compatibility tab.
  • The CBS version on the website does not have all of the Connect updates. See Downloading an applying software updates using CBS connect for more information.

To determine licensing: In Flash, go to Firm on the left and choose CBS clients. If you do not see tabs for Client Info and Modules at the bottom, click the Details button on the right. If the client is CBS ASP, there will be a Portal Date on the Client info tab.
