The Workpaper Check Balance Diagnostic for workpapers created by grouping code in Engagement CS is a utility that compares the total balances in your Excel worksheet with the trial balance data in CSA. A mismatch in total balances can occur when an account is added in CSA and assigned to a grouping code that is in use, or if the grouping code assignments have been changed.

A balance diagnostic section prints at the bottom of each workpaper created by grouping code that displays amounts for each grouping code selected, based on the trial balance totals in CSA. Using Microsoft Excel's conditional formatting, any out of balance amount is displayed in red if it does not match the amounts in the Total line of the worksheet.

Note: By default the Exclude Check Balance Diagnostic checkbox on the Custom Workpaper Grouping Schedules grid page of the Create Workpaper wizard is unmarked.
