Important reminder!

Licenses for Payroll CS, Trial Balance CS, and Write-Up CS (but not Engagement CS) permanently expired on March 1, 2017. CSA will not include 2017 tax rates or payroll forms, so, for 2017 and beyond, you will need to process payroll in another application. We recommend Accounting CS Payroll and myPay Solutions. For more information, see the following topics.

Excel documents within Engagement CS are displaying #VALUE instead of the linked Trial Balance data.

A Microsoft Office update for 2016 (desktop) and 365 (subscription), Version 1708 (Build 8431.2079) has caused the Creative Solutions Accounting Add-In within Engagement CS to display #VALUE instead of the linked Trial Balance data when opening Excel documents.

To correct this issue, we have updated the addin file, CSAAddIn.xla, for Engagement CS Office documents.

You should perform these steps at each staff's desktop that accesses Engagement CS.

We highly advise that you work with a qualified IT professional to assist you with the following steps to update the CSAAddin.xla file.

  1. Download the CSAAddIn.zip file and save to a convenient location.
  2. When the download is complete, extract the CSAAddIn.xla from the zipped file.
  3. Exit out of Engagement CS and Creative Solutions Accounting.
  4. Browse out to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Creative Solutions and rename CSAAddIn.xla to CSAAddIn.xlaOLD.
  5. Copy the extracted CSAAddIn.xla file into the same folder.

The 32-bit version of Microsoft Office 2016, 2013, 2010, or 2007 is required to take advantage of integration with Office applications and other features.

Note for Office 365® users: Our applications integrate with Office 365 when the Office desktop applications are fully installed on the local computer.

Internal notes

Notes for Support Reps:

With this change, the CSAAddin will load in Excel all the time, not just when Excel documents are opened inside Engagement CS.

Development is 'holding off' updating the CSAAddin.xla file for VO and SaaS users for the following reasons:

  1. They are hoping that Microsoft will fix the bug before VO/SaaS Office is updated to Version 1708 (Build 8431.2079).
  2. If they were to update the CSAAddin.xla, every VO/SaaS user may potentially get the one or both of the following errors when they open Excel documents outside of Engagement CS.
    1. Unable to open Accounts XML file. Show me
    1. Microsoft Visual Basic, Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range. Show me

It is possible that someone locally may also get the two errors above when opening Excel outside of Engagement CS. If they do, they can simply click past them. (OK and End)  It should be a very small number though since it affects firms that run their own terminal server or cloud environment and have users who do not use Engagement CS. This would be a setup similar to VO/SaaS.

Any errors when opening inside Engagement CS should be investigated as normal.
