Understanding how UltraTax CS imports data from Trial Balance CS

The following are important notes to keep in mind.

  • Only the current year-end federal balances are imported into UltraTax CS from Trial Balance CS.
    • For a client that was an UltraTax CS client during the prior year, UltraTax CS rolls forward beginning balances from the previous year.
    • For a new UltraTax CS client, you need to enter the beginning balances manually.
  • Rounding is done in UltraTax CS. Therefore, amounts in Trial Balance CS can be either rounded or not rounded.
  • Data from Trial Balance CS can display either summary or detailed information for fields with subschedules in UltraTax CS. 

Importing data from Trial Balance CS into UltraTax CS

The client must be added in UltraTax CS prior to importing data from Trial Balance CS.

  1. Open the client in UltraTax CS and then choose Utilities > Trial Balance CS (Import).
  2. In the Trial Balance CS (Import) dialog, navigate to the location of the Trial Balance CS link file by clicking the Change Location button. This location may be on a network folder, a folder on your local hard drive, or a floppy drive.
  3. In the Trial Balance CS (Import) dialog, enter the Trial Balance CS client ID in the Client ID to Import field.
  4. Click the Import button.
  5. When the process is complete, click the Done button.
