Use the 1099 Items dialog to enter global setup data for the application to use when storing applicable amounts and calculating year-end totals for the preparation of 1099 forms.

Choose Setup > System Configuration > 1099 Items.

Using this dialog

Fields & buttons

Displays the description, type, and 1099 box numbers for each 1099 item that has been defined in Payroll CS. The following form types may be generated for use with any of your payroll clients:

  • 1098
  • 1099-A
  • 1099-B
  • 1099-DIV
  • 1099-G
  • 1099-INT
  • 1099-MISC
  • 1099-OID
  • 1099-PATR
  • 1099-R
  • 1099-S
  • 1099-SA
  • 5498
  • 5498-SA
  • W-2G

Enter a unique description for this 1099 item, using up to 25 alphanumeric characters.

Specify the type of Form 1099 that should be printed for this item at year end by selecting it from the drop-down list.

Enter up to two Form 1099 box numbers to indicate where the amount(s) associated with this item should flow.


  • Several types of pay can be summed in a single box, but the application does not allow you to specify both a W-2 box and a 1099 box for the same item.
  • Although you do not need to design the 1099 form prior to entering data here, once you enter or select a form type in the Type field, you should also specify at least an arbitrary 1099 box number here.
