Choose Backup from the File menu to back up (archive) data for the open client or for multiple clients, to back up global data (affecting all clients), or to back up updates downloaded from CS Connect.
Choose Backup from the File menu.
- To back up client data: Choose Clients from the drop-down list in the first field in the Backup dialog. Double-click one or more of the clients listed in the left (Available) pane to move them to the right (Selected) pane, or click the Select All button. The open client (if any) is automatically listed in the Selected pane. Click the Backup button.
- To back up global data (applicable to all clients): Choose System Data from the drop-down list in the first field in the Backup dialog. Click the Select All button to move each global data item from the Available to the Selected pane, and then click the Backup button.
- To back up update files for the application that have been downloaded from CS Connect: Choose Updates from the drop-down list in the first field in the Backup dialog. Click the Select All button to move each application update file from the Available to the Selected pane, and then click the Backup button.
For licensed users of FileCabinet CS: To set up automatic backups of your client data to FileCabinet CS choose Setup > System Configuration > Administration, and then click the FileCabinet tab.
Fields & buttons
Shows the total number of files of the selected type that are available for backup. Note that any file already listed in the right-hand pane will not appear in the left (Available) pane.
Lists all files of the selected type that are currently available for backup (except those already listed in the Selected pane).
- To back up client data: Choose Clients from the drop-down list in the first field in the Backup dialog. Double-click one or more of the clients listed in the left (Available) pane to move them to the right (Selected) pane, or click the Select All button. The open client (if any) is automatically listed in the Selected pane. Click the Backup button.
- To back up global data (applicable to all clients): Choose System Data from the drop-down list in the first field in the Backup dialog. Click the Select All button to move each global data item from the Available to the Selected pane, and then click the Backup button.
- To back up update files downloaded from CS Connect: Choose Updates from the drop-down list in the first field in the Backup dialog. Click the Select All button to move each application update file from the Available to the Selected pane, and then click the Backup button.
You can re-sort this list by clicking one of the buttons at the top of the pane. Double-click a file to move it to the right-hand pane and thus select it for backup, or click the Select All button to choose all of the files listed.
All files of the selected type that have been chosen for this backup procedure are listed here. You can re-sort the list by clicking one of the buttons at the top of this pane. If you wish to remove a client from this list, double-click it.
Displays the drive and folder where the backup information will be saved.
Allows you to change the backup drive and path (originally set in the File Locations tab of the Setup > User Preferences dialog.)
Only the user who marks this checkbox for a client during the backup process may open that client until he or she releases the client database for access by other staff members.
This option is to prevent work being processed in the client database while the user who checked it out is working with the client database in a different location.
Copies the selected files to the specified backup location, saving them in compressed format.
