You can print a hardcopy of the Trial Balance Variance Report from the Print dialog in CSA. On the General tab of the Trial Balance Variance Report Options dialog, you can choose the type criteria, range of type criteria with account detail and/or subcode detail, Sort order, amount and/or percent thresholds, and Comparison criteria.
Open the File > Print Reports dialog by using one of the following methods: (1) clicking the Print button on the toolbar, (2) clicking the Print Reports icon on the shortcut bar, (3) choosing Print Reports from the File menu, or (4) pressing the CTRL+P shortcut keys. On the Reports tab in the Print dialog, double-click Trial Balance Variance Report to move this report to the Selected pane. With Trial Balance Variance Report still highlighted, click the Options button to open the print options dialog for this report.
Special information
- The Variance Report lists each type criteria in the sequence selected on the General tab of the Trial Balance Variance Report Options dialog.
- Threshold limits are displayed in the header.
- Each pair of period/amount type combinations selected in the Comparison Criteria grid of the Trial Balance Variance Report Options dialog are compared individually and reflected as such on the report.

Print options
Print options for a report may be saved as part of a report profile. Otherwise, print options automatically revert to their default settings when you unselect a report for printing or exit the Print dialog (unless the Save report options checkbox is marked in the Print tab of the Setup > User Preferences dialog).
General tab
Type
You can select one of the following types of grouping criteria to display on the Variance Analysis Report:
- Account Number
- Account Groups
- Account Classifications
- Grouping Schedules 1-5
Range of codes
When you mark the Range of codes checkbox you can choose a range of items based on the Type of grouping that is selected.
Account detail/Subcode detail
You can mark these checkboxes to define the level of detail that you want displayed on the Variance Analysis Report.
Additional Notes
- The availability of the the Account and Subcode detail checkboxes is based on the groupings type criteria that is selected. For example, neither Account or Subcode detail checkboxes are available (grayed) when the Account number grouping type is selected.
- The Sort order selections are determined by the selected grouping type criteria.
- The selected grouping type is displayed in the header section of the Variance Analysis Report.
Period
You can choose up to seven period/amount comparison type combinations for the Variance report. The number of periods available in the period drop-down list is based on the number of years of balances to save on the appropriate tab of the File > New Client or File > Client Properties dialog:
- If you are licensed for Engagement CS, the period is based on the period option that is selected in the Period group box on the Trial Balance tab of the New Client and Properties dialogs, plus the number of years of balances to save (from 1 to 10 years).
- If you are licensed for Trial Balance CS, the period is based on an annual client, plus the number of years of balances that you want to save (1 to 10 years).
Amount type
You can choose from seven amount types:
- Unadjusted
- Adjusted
- Report
- Tax
- Other
- Budget
- Adjusted Budget
Notes
- Amounts in the Variance report are displayed by account number, account group or grouping schedule for each pair of period/amount type combinations that are selected in the Comparison Criteria grid.
- At least two combinations of period/amount type are necessary to provide a comparison. Each additional combination of period/amount type is compared to the one directly preceding it in the Comparison Criteria grid.
Choose one of the following options to Display items that meet the Amount and/ or percent thresholds on the Variance Report:
- None
- $ threshold only
- % threshold only
- $ and % thresholds
- $ or % threshold
Enter the amount threshold in the Amount field (available only when a dollar amount threshold is selected).
Enter the percent threshold in the Percent field (available only when a percent threshold is selected).
Note: Threshold selections apply to the type criteria selected, and not to individual account numbers when the type is other than account number.
Specify the sort order (Account number; $ change; or % change) by selecting the desired option from the F4 drop-down list and also specify either Ascending or Descending.
