Use this dialog to enter default setup information for a selected template.
Open this dialog from the Tax Withholdings & Deductions tab of the Setup > Employee Templates dialog by clicking the button for a State W/H item.

Fields & buttons
Displays the description of the selected withholding item.
Enter the two-character code for the default withholding state, or select it from the drop-down list.
The drop-down list for this field includes only the states that you have already listed for this client in the Payroll tab of the File > New Client dialog or the File > Client Properties dialog.
This field applies to the employee's state tax withholding and should be based on the state W-4 information.
Choose the appropriate option from the drop-down list. (Be sure that your selection is applicable to the requirements of the employee's state, otherwise an incorrect calculation of the withholding amount may result.)
- Single
- Married
- Married - One Exemption
- Married - Two Exemptions
- Married - Filing Joint
- Married Filing Joint - One Spouse Working
- Married Filing Joint - Both Spouses Working
- Married Filing Separate
- Head of Household
- Other
Some states use withholding tables to compute state income tax liability.
Choose the withholding table appropriate for the selected employee template by selecting it from the drop-down list.
For Connecticut only: Choose the appropriate special status from the drop-down list.

- B status
- C status
- D status
Note: This field is not accessible for states other than Connecticut.
Mark this checkbox if an employee to be based on the selected template is exempt from state withholding.
Enter the number of allowances from the state W-4 for each of the following categories:
- Personal
- Additional
- Dependents
- Tax credit
- Est. deduction
