The 1040 tax workflow in Workpapers CS enables you to develop and maintain a consistent process that reduces the need to manually sort documents and enter data. This process also leaves time for the tax professional to advise clients and perform chargeable tax work by distributing administrative tax preparation tasks to non-tax professionals.
Note: The Source Document Processing folder is automatically created in the Engagement Binders Tree view when you create a binder for a 1040 tax return engagement client.
Use the following tasks in Workpapers CS to create an automated 1040 tax workflow and take advantage of the integration capabilities with UltraTax CS.
- Add an engagement binder and use UltraTax CS as the Source.
- Create the 1040 engagement client from scratch, or populate your engagement client with basic information from UltraTax CS.
- Use one of the following methods to add 1040 tax workpapers to the engagement binder.
- Insert an external file via the Add Workpaper wizard.
- Insert a scanned document.
- Add a document from the NetClient CS portal via File Exchange portlet.
- Drag and drop a workpaper from a local or networked drive.
- Transmit, retrieve, and organize source documents in the engagement binder. (The Source Document Processing service of Workpapers CS is not automatically included with SaaS access; the service includes either a per-file fee or an annual renewable fee for unlimited access. For pricing details, please contact your CS Sales representative.)
- Prepare, review, and deliver the 1040 tax return from UltraTax CS.
