Setting up and maintaining data locations for FileCabinet CS integration

Show expandable text

FileCabinet CS integrates with most CS Professional Suite applications, but you'll need to take some steps before you can seamlessly store documents in FileCabinet CS. First, you should add data locations in FileCabinet CS. Then, click the application below for which you need to set up integration with FileCabinet CS.

For ToolBox CS, Accounting CS, and Workpapers CS you don't need to do any additional setup.

If the FileCabinet CS data location is incorrect, missing, greyed out, or you cannot use the Browse button to update the path in the Setup > File Locations screen or the the Print dialog, use the following steps to change the FileCabinet CS data location.

  1. Close any open CS Professional Suite applications except FileCabinet CS.
  2. In FileCabinet CS, choose Setup > System Configuration > Data Locations tab.
  3. Click the Add/Modify Data Location button.
  4. click the drop-down arrow to the left of the Enter Path button and choose the WinCSI\FcabData folder. If you are using Virtual Office (VO) or Software as a Service (SaaS), choose the Y:\FcabData folder.
  5. Change the Alias to something that is not already in the list and not "Default".
  6. Click OK to close the System Configuration screen.
  7. Open Accounting CS or Workpapers CS.
  8. Choose Setup > File Locations and verify that the FilCabinet CS data location is correct.
  9. Optional: Change the Alias in FileCabinet CS to the original name.
  1. In Fixed Assets CS, choose Setup > System Configuration > Data Locations

  1. In Practice CS, choose Setup > System Configuration > File Locations.
  2. In the FileCabinet CS Data Path column, enter the path to the FileCabinet CS data location.

Note: Click the Use Default Paths button to insert the default paths for all columns. If your data locations are different from the default paths, you can change them manually as necessary.

  1. In UltraTax CS, choose Setup > System Configuration > Data Locations.
  2. Click Modify Data Location and then select the FileCabinet CS data location.
  3. Click OK twice to close the dialogs.

Troubleshooting

The links between FileCabinet CS and Practice CS may break when updating Practice CS. You may notice any of the following:

  • The FileCabinet CS icon is missing from the Practice CS button bar.
  • The FileCabinet CS option is missing from all Print screens.
  • The FileCabinet CS Documents portlets are not available on the Firm, Client, or Staff Dashboards.

To resolve this problem, reinstall the FileCabinet CS Desktop Setup on each workstation.

  1. Close UltraTax CS and/or Fixed Assets CS.
  2. In FileCabinet CS and choose Setup > System Configuration > Data Locations.
  3. Select the correct data location, and click Modify.
  4. Enter an alias for the data location.
  5. Close FileCabinet CS and re-open UltraTax CS or Fixed Assets CS.

Notes:

  • If the steps above do not work, you may need to retrieve your updated licenses, or reinstall the desktop setup for FileCabinet CS.
  • If your firm is licensed for GoFileRoom in addition to FileCabinet CS, your FileCabinet CS path in UltraTax CS will say "(client)". UltraTax CS can only integrate with one or the other, not both at the same time.

Last Resort Troubleshooting for UltraTax CS

The FileCabinet CS data locations are stored in the X:\WinCSI\FcabSys\ZFCPATHS.DAT file, where X is the drive letter FileCabinet CS is installed on.

  1. Open Start > Run and type REGEDIT.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Creative Solutions\CS Filing Cabinet and check the AppPath value. The value should be set to X:\WinCSI\CABINET\fcab.exe.

Note: It is possible the user does not have permission to change the Registry. Therefore, running the desktop setup for FileCabinet CS has not updated this value.

  3. Update the value manually and see if UltraTax CS will show the correct FileCabinet CS data locations.

If all attempts fail do the following:

  1. Delete the X:\WinCSI\FcabSys\ZFCPATHS.DAT file.
  2. Delete the X:\WinCSI\UTYYSys\_YUSSPTH.DAT file, where Y is the year. This files stores the global setup of all data locations in UltraTax CS > Setup > System Configuration > Data Locations.

Note: The user will have to setup all the locations within UltraTax CS again after deleting this file.

  3. Delete the X:\WinCSI\UTYYSys\_YUSUMSC.username file. This is the UltraTax CS user preference file that holds user specific file locations.
  4. Open FileCabinet CS and setup the appropriate data locations.
  5. Open UltraTax CS and setup the appropriate data locations.
