Creating an embedded object

You can create documents from within Digita FileCabinet from any application that supports Active Document Interface, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. When you create a file as an embedded object in Digita FileCabinet, you can edit the file in the associated application, or from within Digita FileCabinetusing many of the features of the object's source application.

  1. Choose Object > Create New.
  2. In the Create Object dialog, select the drawer ID for the drawer (or choose <Select multiple drawers>) that contains the folders in which you will store the embedded object.
  3. In the Object type pane, choose the type for the object. This list includes all applications that are installed on your computer and support Active Document Interface.
  4. Enter a name for the embedded file in the Object name field. This field contains the name of the object type selected above by default.
  5. In the Store Document in folders pane, mark the checkbox next to each folder in which the embedded object will be stored.

If you do not select a folder for the object, it will be placed in a folder named {Not yet filed} and can be placed in a folder later.

  6. Click OK.
