Creating embedded objects from Microsoft Office applications

Follow these steps to create an embedded object from Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook. When you store a file as an embedded object in DT FileCabinet, you can edit the file in the original application, or from within DT FileCabinet using many of the features of the object's source application.

  1. From within Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook, click the Embed button in the Microsoft Office DT FileCabinet toolbar.
The DT FileCabinet installation process adds DT FileCabinet toolbars to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. The buttons in these toolbars allow you to quickly print or embed documents to DT FileCabinet. The DT FileCabinet toolbar is supported in Microsoft Office 2003, Office 2007, Office 2010, and Office 2016.

Note: If you are using Microsoft Office 2007 or higher, the DT FileCabinet toolbar is available in the Add-Ins tab of the ribbon.

  2. Click OK if DT FileCabinet notifies you that the current document will be saved, closed, and reopened after it is embedded.
  3. If your firm uses multiple data locations, select the desired DT FileCabinet data location from the DT FileCabinet field.
  4. Indicate the ID of the drawer in which you will store the document, enter the name of the document as you want it to appear in DT FileCabinet, and choose the folder in which you will store the document.
  5. Click the Embed button.
