Acquiring images for one asset

To acquire images from a TWAIN or WIA-compliant device (such as a scanner or digital camera), a file, or the Image Library, perform the following steps.

Notes

  • If you are running Fixed Assets CS through Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS), you must use a TWAIN-compliant scanner.
  • If you are acquiring images that you will assign to multiple assets, see Acquiring images for multiple assets.
  • You can acquire the following image types into Fixed Assets CS: BMP, ICO, JFIF, JIF, JPEG, JPG, PBM, PGM, PCD, PCX, PNG, PPM, RAS, TARGA, TGA, TIF, and TIFF.
  1. In the Asset List window, double-click the asset for which you will acquire the images.
  2. In the Asset Detail dialog, click the Image tab.
  3. Click the Acquire button to open the Acquire Image dialog.
  4. In the Acquire image from section, select the source from which you will acquire the images.
  5. The steps to finish acquiring the image vary depending on the image's source. Click one of the following links for the appropriate source.

    1. With Copy from File highlighted, click Continue.
    2. In the Select Image dialog, navigate to the folder in which the image resides.

      Note: If you are running Fixed Assets CS through Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS), you can navigate to files on your local network.

    3. Highlight the images.
    4. Click the Select or Open button. (The name of the button varies depending on which version of Microsoft Windows you have installed.)
    5. In the Image Properties dialog, you can rename the image if desired. (By default, the Save image as field contains the image's file name.)

      Notes

      • If you click Cancel in this dialog, the image is not acquired.
      • If you selected multiple images in step c, the Image Properties dialog opens for each image.
    6. Click OK.

    To assign an additional image to the current asset, return to step 3 and repeat the procedure.

    1. With Image Library highlighted, click Continue.
    2. In the Library dialog, select the image.
    3. Click the Select button. The image is now assigned to the current asset.

    1. Verify that the TWAIN or WIA-compliant device is turned on.
    2. If the document needs to be scanned, place the item to be scanned on the scanner.
    3. In the Optimize group box, mark the Reduce image size on disk checkbox if you want to save disk space by saving the image at a smaller size.
      • For black and white documents, click the Optimize for black and white pages option.
      • For color images, click the Optimize for color pages option.
    4. Click Continue.
    5. The application for the TWAIN or WIA-compliant device opens. Follow the directions for the TWAIN or WIA-compliant application to scan the document or take the picture.

      Once Fixed Assets CS has acquired the image, the Image Properties dialog opens.

    6. In the Image Properties dialog, you can rename the image if desired. (By default, the Save Image as field contains the image's file name.)

      If you click Cancel in this dialog, the image is not acquired.

Note: All acquired images are added to the Image Library and can be assigned to multiple assets.
