To start a new inventory for a Fixed Assets CS client, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the appropriate Fixed Assets CS client.
  2. Choose Tasks > Inventory.
  3. If the client has closed or discontinued inventories for the current fiscal year end, the Inventory dialog opens; click the New Inventory button. If the client does not have any closed or discontinued inventories, continue to the next step.

Note: A Fixed Assets CS client can have only one active inventory for the current fiscal year end.

  4. In the General Information tab of the Setup Inventory dialog, enter the name of the new inventory in the Inventory name field.

Note: The current system date is automatically entered in the Date initiated field. You cannot change this date.

  5. Click the Next button to open the Select Assets tab.

By default, all inventories include all applicable assets. However, you can specify that the inventory include only certain assets based on restrictions you set. For more information, see Modifying which assets or data are included in an inventory.

  6. When you are done with the Select Assets tab, click the Next button to open the Columns tab.
  7. By default, the Inventory Asset List window includes the following columns in the following order: Review, Inventory Status, Tag #, Description, In Service, Activity, and Asset #. For more information, see Modifying which assets or data are included in an inventory.

Note: The columns you choose here determine the data that will be included in the inventory for each asset.

  8. When you are done entering information in the Setup Inventory dialog, click the Finish button to open the Inventory Asset List window for the new inventory.
