Specifying which Fixed Assets CS data location you will use

Show expandable text

If your firm has multiple branches that share the same installation of Fixed Assets CS, you must specify which data location you will use. The process to specify the location varies depending on whether Fixed Assets CS is opened after or before the data locations have been added.

If Fixed Assets CS is opened after the data locations are added: The first time you open Fixed Assets CS, the Choose Data Location dialog opens automatically. Choose the data location you want to use from the drop-down list in the Fixed Assets CS field. If you are licensed for and have installed FileCabinet CS, the corresponding FileCabinet CS data location automatically appears in the FileCabinet CS field.

If Fixed Assets CS is opened before the data locations are added: Fixed Assets CS will store data in the default directory (which is C:\Wincsi\Deprdata, where C is the drive to which you installed Fixed Assets CS). To use a different data location, complete the following steps.

  1. Choose Setup > User Preferences.
  2. Click the File Locations tab.
  3. Verify that the Fixed Assets CS option is selected.
  4. In the File Types and Locations list, select Fixed Assets CS client data.
  5. Click the Modify button.
  6. If a client is open, Fixed Assets CS warns you that continuing with the process will close the current client. Click Yes to continue.
  7. In the Choose Data Location dialog, select the appropriate location from the Data location field.

Note: Only locations that have been entered in the Setup > System Configuration > Data Locations tab are included in the list.

  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK to close the User Preferences dialog.
