Complete the following multi-part procedure to move Fixed Assets CS data from a local or network drive to Virtual Office CS or SaaS, and set up the Virtual Office CS or SaaS installation of Fixed Assets CS.

Part 1: Back up data from your local installation of Fixed Assets CS

  1. Create a folder on your local hard drive named FAbackups.
    1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
    2. Double-click the C:\ drive.
    3. Choose File > New > Folder.
    4. Name the folder FAbackups.

    Note: If you use multiple data locations, you should create a separate backup folder for each location.

  2. Open your local installation of Fixed Assets CS.
  3. Back up Fixed Assets CS client data to the C:\FAbackups folder.
    1. Choose File > Backup.
    2. Verify that Clients is selected in the first field in the Backup dialog.
    3. Double-click one or more clients to move them to the right (Selected) pane, or click the Select All button.

      Note: The open client (if any) is listed in the Selected pane.

    4. Click the Modify Backup Location button, navigate to C:\FAbackups, and click OK.
    5. Click the Backup button.
  4. If you use multiple data locations, log in to each additional location and repeat steps 2 – 3. Be sure to select the appropriate backup location in step 3d.
  5. Back up Fixed Assets CS custom methods of depreciation.
    1. Choose File > Backup.
    2. Choose Custom Methods from the first field in the Backup dialog.
    3. Click the Select All button to move the custom methods of depreciation to the Selected pane.
    4. Verify that C:\FAbackups appears in the Backup location field.
    5. Click the Backup button.
  6. Back up Fixed Assets CS custom reports.
    1. Choose File > Backup.
    2. Choose Custom Reports from the first field in the Backup dialog.
    3. Click the Select All button to move the custom reports to the Selected pane.
    4. Verify that C:\FAbackups appears in the Backup location field.
    5. Click the Backup button.
  7. Close the local installation of Fixed Assets CS.

Part 2: Restore data into the Virtual Office CS or SaaS installation of Fixed Assets CS

  1. Click the Applications link in the NetStaff CS tab of the navigation pane.

    Note: If you don’t see this link, you don’t have access to applications through Virtual Office CS or SaaS.

  2. In the Virtual Office CS screen, click the Fixed Assets CS icon to open the application.
  3. If you need to set up multiple data locations, contact CS Web Services Support by calling 800-968-0600 and following the prompts.
  4. Restore client data.
    1. Choose File > Restore.
    2. In the Clients Not Found dialog, click the Change Backup Location button and navigate to the FAbackups folder on your local C:\ drive.

      Note: In the Virtual Office CS or SaaS environment, C$ on Client (V:) is your local C:\ drive.

    3. Verify that Clients is selected in the first field in the Restore dialog.
    4. Click the Select All button to move all client data to the Selected pane.
    5. Click the Restore button.
  5. Restore custom methods of depreciation.
    1. Choose File > Restore.
    2. Choose Custom Methods from the first field in the Restore dialog.
    3. Click the Select All button to move the custom methods to the Selected pane.
    4. Verify that V:\FAbackups appears in the Backup location field.
    5. Click the Restore button.
  6. Restore custom reports.
    1. Choose File > Restore.
    2. Choose Custom Reports from the first field in the Restore dialog.
    3. Click the Select All button to move the custom reports to the Selected pane.
    4. Verify that V:\FAbackups appears in the Backup location field.
    5. Click the Restore button.
  7. If you use multiple data locations, repeat this procedure for each data location.

Part 3: Set up the Virtual Office CS or SaaS installation of Fixed Assets CS

  1. Choose Setup > System Configuration and make any necessary changes to the application setup.
  2. Each Fixed Assets CS user should verify his user preferences through the Setup > User Preferences dialog.

You are now ready to work in Fixed Assets CS in the Virtual Office CS or SaaS environment.
