Printing plan data reports, graphs, and letters

Show expandable text

Planner CS includes a large library of predefined standard reports, including plan summary reports, tax analysis, and itemized deductions, which you can print for specific clients. You can also create any number of custom reports.

Planner CS also includes a graphs editor which generates two- and three-dimensional graphs in a variety of styles.

In addition, you can create client letters using Microsoft Word or the client letter writer included with Planner CS.

Notes

  1. Open a plan and choose File > Print Reports. The Print Reports dialog opens.
  2. To change the destination of the printed items, use the options in the Destination group box.
  3. Select one of the following report options.

    • Auto Select - This option includes standard reports that are automatically selected depending on data entered in the plan and the print conditions set up for the preparer. To view or change which standard reports will print, click this option and then click the Print Selection button.
    • Tax Projection report - This report summarizes a client's federal income tax plan, including income, deductions, taxes, payments, and more. When this report is generated, Planner CS also generates a summary report for each state included in the plan. To change which items will print, click this option and then click the Print Selection button.
    • Report Set - If you previously defined a report set, click this option and then select a report set from the drop-down list. Report sets can include standard reports, custom reports, graphs, and letters. To view or change which items will print for the selected report set during the current print session, click the Print Selection button.
    • Last printed selection - This option selects the same items to print as were most recently printed for this plan. To view or change which items will print, click the Print Selection button.
  4. To include plan comments or an allocations detail statement in the print job, click the Print Selection button and mark the desired checkbox near the bottom of the Print Selection dialog.
  5. To view or change the order of items selected to print, click the Print Selection button and click the Collation tab. Items will print in the order they are listed.

Note: You cannot change the collation order of the Plan Comments report; it always prints last in the collation.

  6. Select a layout from the Report layout drop-down list. The layouts that are available depend on the report you selected in the previous step and if you created custom layouts.

    Notes about certain layouts:

    • The <Tax Projection> layout is automatically selected when the Tax Projection report option is selected. With this layout, the text size of the row labels and amounts is adjusted based on the number of columns in the report. In addition, rows that do not contain data are omitted to reduce the number of printed pages.
    • The <System> layout is designed for standard and custom reports. With this layout, the text size of the row labels and amounts is adjusted based on the number of columns in the report.
  7. Select one of the following options in the Alternatives/Years to print group box to specify which alternatives and years to print.

    • All columns - This option includes data from all years and/or alternatives in the plan, including alternatives and years you chose to hide.
    • Current plan view - This option includes data from the alternatives and years currently displayed in the main data-entry window.
    • Custom - This option includes data from the alternatives and years you select. Click this option and then click the Select columns button.
  8. To specify the number of copies and other details, use the options in the Options group box.
  9. Click the Print button.

    Notes

    • Client letters cannot be previewed from the Print Reports dialog. To preview letters, choose Reports > Client Letters - .RTF, open the letter you want to preview, and then choose File > Preview.
    • If the Printer checkbox is not marked and the FileCabinet CS checkbox is marked, the Print button becomes the To Cabinet button. Click this button to store the report in FileCabinet CS (if licensed).
