Fields & buttons

Variable Fields group box

Use this group box to indicate which data entry field(s) should be varied.

Use this field to select the name of the input (data entry) field that contains the value you would like to modify to achieve a desired dollar amount for a selected calculated field. In order to run the Result Finder, this field cannot be blank.

  • If you opened this dialog while the cursor was in a federal input (data entry) field, the name of that field appears in this field.
  • If this field is blank, or to choose a different field, click the drop-down arrow or press F4 to view a list of fields to select from. Only federal input (data entry) fields are available to select.

Mark this checkbox if you would like the Result Finder to solve for a second data entry field amount. (Select the first data entry field in the Input field description field above.)

If you mark this checkbox, the Companion field will be displayed, where you can select an additional data entry field to use in the Result Finder's calculations.

Note: This field is only available if you mark the Use Companion Field checkbox.

If you would like the Result Finder to solve for two data entry field amounts that correspond with a desired amount for a calculated field, mark the Use Companion Field checkbox and enter a field name in this field. To enter a name, click the drop-down arrow or press F4 to view a list of fields to select from. Only input (data entry) fields are available to select.

After you select a Companion field, click an option to indicate whether you want the Result Finder to calculate the correct amount by incrementing the companion field amount in the same or opposite direction as the input field amount.

Note: These options are only available if you mark the Use Companion Field checkbox.

Click the Change in the same increment as the input field above option if you want the Result Finder to adjust the Companion Field amount in the same direction that it will adjust the Input Field amount when solving for the desired result.

Click the Change in the opposite increment (multiply by -1) option if you want the Result Finder to adjust the Companion Field amount in the opposite direction that it will adjust the Input Field amount when solving for the desired result.

Buttons

Click the Start button to have the Result Finder solve for the dollar amounts for the Input and Companion fields that correspond with the desired value of your selected Result field.

You can modify the Input, Companion, and Result fields and click the Start button any number of times without this affecting the plan itself. Amounts from the Result Finder dialog will not transfer to your plan until you click the Transfer Results button.

Click the Transfer Results button to transfer the amounts displayed next to the Input field and Companion field (if applicable) into the open plan.

Note: If plan data already exists in the Input or Companion field, the Result Finder will replace it with the new amount. If allocation data already exists in the field, Planner CS will indicate the difference between the old and new amounts in the Allocation window for that field.
