Exporting custom formats

Show expandable text

Practice CS enables you to export your custom formats. This is useful if, for example, you create a format using the Sample database and want to move it to your firm database. You can also attach formats to email messages.

Exported formats are files with .CFX file extensions, which can then be imported into Practice CS.

To export a report, invoice, statement, letter, or label format, follow these steps.

  1. Choose File > Export > Custom Formats to open the Export Custom Formats screen.
  2. In the list of folders, click the Expand button button next to the folder for the type of format you want to export.
  3. Mark the checkbox for each individual format you want to export. Note that you can export more than one format at a time, if necessary.
  4. When all desired formats are selected, mark the File and/or E-mail checkbox(es) at the top of the screen.

Note: For either type of export, Practice CS will create a .CFX file for each exported format that contains the format information.

  5. Perform one or both of the following steps, depending on the method of export you chose.
    • To export to a file, click the More More button button, and in the Browse For Folder dialog navigate to the folder where you want the exported format to be saved.

Note: If you're running Practice CS through Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS), you can navigate to files on your local network.

    • To export to an email message, click the address book Address book button button and select one or more email recipients for the message.
  6. Click the Export Selected button.
