Practice CS: File Transfer - Setup

Show expandable text

If your firm is licensed for the Client Management module and NetFirm CS, you can set up web-based portals for staff and/or client contacts that allow you to share documents and other information with those contacts securely.

Note: NetClient CS portals are a service that is billed on a monthly basis.

Firm Setup

Practice CS can (optionally) automatically create NetClient or NetStaff portals when a new client, prospect, or staff member is added.

  1. Go to Setup > Firm > Preferences and select the option to automatically create portals.
  2. On the Notifications tab, choose the File Transfer options to use.

Client Portal Setup

Use the following steps to associate an existing NetClient portal with a Practice CS client contact, or create a new portal for the contact.

  1. Go to Setup > Clients > Contact Info tab for the client.
  2. Enter or verify the email address for the contact in the Email field.
  3. In the Portal field, choose the portal to link to this Practice CS contact.

You can use the Find button to open a screen where you can search for the portal.

  4. If there is not an existing NetClient portal for this contact, select Actions and then Add Portal.

    Notes:

    • After you save, a registration email is sent to the email address for the contact.
    • The portal will have a status of Unregistered and cannot be used for file transfers until the contact completes the steps in the registration process.

Staff Portal Setup

Staff at your firm need to have a registered NetStaff CS portal to use the file transfer feature. Use the following steps to associate an existing NetStaff portal with a Practice CS staff contact, or create a new portal for the staff.

  1. Go to Setup > Staff > Contact Info tab for the staff member.
  2. Enter or verify the email address for the staff in the Email field.
  3. In the Portal field, choose the portal to link to this Practice CS contact.

You can use the Find button to open a screen where you can search for the portal.

  4. If there is not an existing NetStaff portal for this contact, select Actions and then Add Portal.

    Notes:

    • After you save, a registration email is sent to the email address for the contact.
    • The portal will have a status of Unregistered and cannot be used for file transfers until the contact completes the steps in the registration process.
    • You do not need to log in to NetStaff CS to transfer files to and from clients.
