In order for integration and/or data sharing to function between Practice CS and other CS Professional Suite programs, file locations must be set. To set up integration and/or data sharing, or if integration/data sharing is not functioning, verify the file locations below.

This topic lists the default paths. If your firm uses file locations other than the default, it is your responsibility to identify where your data is located.

Data sharing

Data sharing is the automatic sharing of information based on SSN, TIN, or EIN. Data sharing includes sharing demographic information (names, addresses, etc.) and sharing client notes.

Integration

Integration is anything that is not data sharing. Examples of integration are:

Setup

Data locations in Practice CS are only required for data sharing. Integration will function even if data locations in Practice CS are blank, as long as the locations are set up correctly in the other CS Professional applications. Do not set data locations in Practice CS unless your firm wants to use data sharing.

  1. In Practice CS, choose Setup > System Configuration > File Locations.
  2. Enter the location of client data for each program you wish to data share with. To use the default paths, click the Default Paths button.
  3. Click OK.
  1. In Accounting CS, choose Setup > File Locations.
  2. In the Practice CS field, verify that the path is correct. The default path is X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data, where X is the drive or network location where Practice CS is installed.
  3. If the path is not correct, click the Browse button and browse to the Practice CS data location.
  1. In Creative Solutions Accounting, choose Setup > User Preferences > File Locations tab. This setting is user-specific and will need to be set by each user.
  2. In the Practice CS data path field, verify that the path is correct. The default path is X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data, where X is the drive or network location where Practice CS is installed.
  3. If the path is not correct, click the Browse button and browse to the Practice CS data location.
  1. In FileCabinet CS, choose Setup > User Preferences > File Locations tab. This setting is user-specific and will need to be set by each user.
  2. In the list of Integrated applications, choose Practice CS.
  3. In the list of File Types, choose Practice CS client data and verify that the path is correct. The default path is X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data, where X is the drive or network location where Practice CS is installed.
  4. If the path is not correct, click the Modify Location button and browse to the Practice CS data location.
  5. Click OK to choose the location and click OK again to exit the User Preferences dialog.
  1.  In Fixed Assets CS, choose Setup > User Preferences > File Locations tab. This setting is user-specific and will need to be set by each user.
  2. In the list of Integrated applications, choose Practice CS.
  3. In the list of File Types, choose Practice CS client data and verify that the path is correct. The default path is X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data, where X is the drive or network location where Practice CS is installed.
  4. If the path is not correct, click the Modify Location button and browse to the Practice CS data location.
  5. Click OK to choose the location and click OK again to exit the User Preferences dialog.
  1. In UltraTax CS, choose Setup > User Preferences > File Locations tab. This setting is user-specific and will need to be set by each user.
    • In UltraTax 2013 and later, you can choose Setup > Office Configuration > Default User Preferences tab to set and apply default preferences, including file locations, for all users.
    • In UltraTax 2009-2012, you can choose Setup > System Configuration > Default User Preferences tab to set and apply default preferences.
    • In UltraTax 2008 and earlier, there is no option for default user preferences.
  2. From the list of Integrated applications, choose CS Practice Products.
  3. In the list of File Types, choose Practice CS client data and verify that the path is correct. The default path is X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data, where X is the drive or network location where Practice CS is installed.
  4. If the path is not correct, click the Modify Location button and browse to the Practice CS data location.
  5. Click OK to choose the location and click OK again to exit the User Preferences dialog.
