Question

If I do not want to use the Education Expense Optimization utility, how do I enter qualified expenses for the tuition and fees deduction and education credits?

Answer

If you do not want to use the Education Expense Optimization utility, use Ed Exp Codes 1 (American Opportunity credit), 2 (Lifetime Learning credit), or 3 (Tuition and fees deduction) in the Eligible student information statement dialog in Screen Educate. Form 8917 and/or Form 8863 will be completed based on the code(s) you select.
