Question

How do I amend a return for merged clients or domestic partnerships?

Answer

The data entry for amending tax returns for clients who were merged using the joint client merge feature is the same as any married filing joint client. See Completing Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return for the Form 1040X data entry process.

For domestic partner returns, the amendment process depends on which return is being amended. To amend the federal return, follow the Form 1040X data entry process from within the single federal return. To amend the state registered domestic partner return, follow the Form 1040X data entry process from within the combined state return.
