Use this dialog to assign or reassign clients to specific preparers, reviewers, staff members, or PRP preparer blocks. Note that you can reassign clients in batches, which enables you to easily change the preparer, reviewer, or staff assigned to a group of clients during personnel changes at your firm. You can also use this dialog to assign clients to client return and organizer delivery methods (paper, PDF via email, PDF file, web, and web print only), and to assign electronic filing email acknowledgment settings for 1040 clients.

To open this dialog, choose Utilities > Reassign Clients.

Notes

  • To assign clients to preparers, you must first enter preparer information in the Preparers tab on the Setup > Office Configuration dialog.
  • To assign clients to reviewers, you must first enter reviewer information in the Reviewers tab on the Setup > Office Configuration dialog.
  • To assign clients to staff members, you must first enter staff information in the Staff tab on the Setup > Office Configuration dialog.
  • To assign clients to PRP preparer blocks, you must first enter PRP preparer block information in Setup > System Configuration > Firm > PRP Preparer Block.

Fields & buttons

Lists all clients who meet the criteria designated in the Focus group box. Highlight the client(s) that you want to assign to a specific category and click the Select button to move them over to the Clients selected to reassign pane on the right. For certain categories (such as client document language), the list of clients available to reassign includes only those to which that category is applicable.

Tip: To sort the client list by client ID, name, or entity type, click on the words Client ID, Name, or Entity in the title bar of the list pane.

Lists the client(s) you have selected to assign to a specific category.

Tips

  • To remove a client from this list, highlight the client and click the Remove button. The client returns to the Clients available to reassign pane on the left.
  • To sort the client list by client ID, name, or entity type, click on the words Client ID, Name, or Entity in the title bar of the list pane.

Mark one or more of the entity type checkboxes to include the corresponding clients in the client list.

Example: To include only 1040 clients in the list, clear all checkboxes except the 1040 checkbox.

Note: Mark the Other checkbox to include 990, 5500, 706, and 709 clients in the list.

Click this button to toggle between the most recent custom Custom focus button Focus selection and the default Default focus button selection.

Select a preparer or staff member from the drop-down list to limit the list to clients whose returns were assigned to a specific person.

Use this drop-down list to focus the client listing according to the return or organizer delivery method (paper, PDF via email, PDF file, web, or, for organizers, web - print only) specified for each client.

Reassign to group box

Use this drop-down list to indicate that you are assigning clients to a preparer, staff member, PRP preparer block, client document language, Puerto Rico Municipalities form language (if applicable), organizer delivery method, tax return delivery method, or to receive electronic filing acknowledgments via email messages. You can also use the Preparer / Reviewer / Staff drop-down list below this field to choose a specific preparer, staff member, or PRP preparer block, depending on the selection in the Category field.

  • To assign clients to reviewers, you must first enter reviewer information in the Reviewers tab on the Setup > Office Configuration dialog.
  • To assign clients to staff members, you must first enter staff information in the Staff tab on the Setup > Office Configuration dialog.
  • To assign clients to PRP preparer blocks, you must first enter PRP preparer block information in Setup > System Configuration > Firm > PRP Preparer Block.

Depending on the option that you chose in the Category field, this field is named Preparer, Reviewer, Staff, PRP Preparer Block, Language, Return Delivery, Organizer Delivery, or Email ELF Ack. Use the drop-down list to select the preparer, staff member, PRP preparer block, language, return delivery method, or organizer delivery method to whom the selected clients should be assigned.
