MFA required for electronic filing

Effective May 3rd, the 2017 version of UltraTax CS requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) to access the electronic filing transmission feature in CS Connect.

Thomson Reuters is committed to proactively evolving our security features to help you protect your firm and your clients' data. For more information about multi-factor authentication, see Multi-factor authentication overview.

For tax-year 2016 and future years, Form 1040NR, U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return can be filed electronically using UltraTax CS. Extensions for Form 1040NR can also be filed electronically. Follow the same procedures for preparing 1040 returns or extensions for electronic filing to prepare Form 1040NR for electronic filing.

Note: In UltraTax CS, use the File the return electronically if not marked for e-file in the prior year (Screen ELF) checkbox in Setup > 1040 Individual > Other Return Options > Other tab > to mark all 1040NR clients. Since the IRS does not allow Form 1040NR-EZ returns to be e-filed, this option does not mark the File this return electronically field for 1040NR-EZ clients.
