MFA required for electronic filing

Effective May 3rd, the 2017 version of UltraTax CS requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) to transmit e-files from CS Connect. Find out more.

Error Code CSUS09: Taxpayer identification number must be present.

This error code is most commonly the result of an invalid Taxpayer/Spouse (T/S/J) code entered on one or more input screen units. If the client has a filing status other than Married Filing Joint, ensure that all T/S/J fields are either blank or coded using "T," but not "S." UltraTax CS uses the T/S/J designation to determine which Social Security Number, taxpayer or spouse, to include on the corresponding form or schedule. In the case of a non-joint filer, UltraTax CS will be unable to determine a Social Security Number for any unit coded S; therefore, causing this rejection.

If all units are appropriately coded, or the taxpayer is filing Married Filing Joint, verify that the Social Security Numbers have not been inadvertently overridden off of any forms or schedules. To do so, bring up the return diagnostics (by accessing View / Diagnostics, or pressing CTRL+D), and look for an Overrides tab. If one exists, review all overrides to ensure that there are no blank or otherwise invalid overrides within any Social Security Number fields.
