The UltraTax CS Source Data Entry utility enables you to enter data on facsimile versions of the following forms that your clients submit for the preparation of their tax returns.

1042-S 1099-PATR

Schedule K-1

1099-MISC General information
1099-OID Medical Expenses

Once the facsimile forms are complete, you can export the data to UltraTax CS and accept it into your 1040 client data files via the data sharing feature.

In addition to entering 1040 client data on facsimile versions of forms, you can export completed Schedule K-1 information and accept it into your 1065 and 1120S client data files. Also, you can export completed information for both Schedule K-1 and Form 1099-R and accept it into your 1041 client data files.

All source documents should be reviewed to ensure that the correct information is included in the tax return. Data that contains typographical errors in Social Security numbers cannot be shared. UltraTax Source Data Entry can alert the data entry person when a TIN has been entered that does not match any UltraTax CS clients. Data entered with a dependent's SSN cannot be transferred to the taxpayer's return in UltraTax CS where the dependent is claimed.

Using the Source Data Entry utility

The Source Data Entry utility is designed to be used in conjunction with UltraTax CS, but can be launched separately via the UltraTax CS Source Data Entry shortcut on your desktop. You do not need to have UltraTax CS installed locally to use the Source Data Entry utility. See Entering source document information in the Source Data Entry utility for detailed steps on entering data from source documents.

Notes

  • If you used a general ledger application to prepare an entity's books and plan to import data from that general ledger application into the tax return in UltraTax CS, do not use Source Data Entry to enter data from the same source documents. Source documents produced by Creative Solutions Accounting or Accounting CS (such as Forms W-2, 1099-R or 1099-M) or in UltraTax CS (for example, Schedule K-1) are already available to import into the client's return via data sharing. For more information, see How does data imported from other sources affect amounts entered via Source Data Entry? in the Source Data Entry frequently asked questions.
  • To facilitate more efficient data entry, the UltraTax CS Source Data Entry utility disables fields that are not required for return preparation, electronic filing, or Data Mining. Other source document fields may be disabled if there is no equivalent data-entry area in the federal UltraTax/1040 application. All source document data should be reviewed for accuracy.
