Follow these steps to create or modify watermarks for inclusion on printed tax returns. Watermarks can also be included as annotations on returns printed to FileCabinet CS. Using the Watermarks dialog or the Watermark Details dialog, you can create new watermarks, customize the appearance and placement of existing watermarks, and specify the return collations that will include a specific watermark by default.

Note: When printing returns via the Print Returns dialog, you can also select a custom watermark for that particular print job. To do so, click the Watermark button to open the Select Watermark dialog.

  1. Depending on whether UltraTax CS is set for firm-wide or user-defined print options, do one of the following to access the appropriate dialog:
    • Firm-wide print options: Choose Setup > Office Configuration and enter the master password and click the Continue button if required. Then, click the Print Options tab and the Watermarks button.
    • User-defined print options: Choose Setup > Office Configuration and enter the master password and click the Continue button if required. Then, click the Watermarks tab.

    Note: Regardless of whether UltraTax CS is set to use firm-wide or user-defined print options, watermark settings always apply to the entire firm.

  2. Choose one of the following actions.
    • To create a new watermark, click the Add button.
    • To modify an existing watermark, highlight the desired watermark in the list pane and click the Edit button.

    If you are using firm-wide print options, clicking the Add or Edit buttons will enable the fields on the Watermarks dialog. If you are using user-defined print options, this will open the Watermark Details dialog. The fields in these locations are identical.

  3. Enter or edit the text for the watermark in the Watermark field. This text prints on the tax return according to the specifications on this dialog, and is displayed in both the Watermarks list pane and the Select Watermark dialog.
  4. Choose the desired size of the watermark lettering from the Font Size drop-down list.
  5. Choose the desired color of the watermark lettering from the Font Color drop-down list. UltraTax CS provides six different colors to choose from.
  6. Use the Print watermark on options to specify whether the watermark will print only on the first page of the tax returns, or on every page of the return.
  7. In the Position on page group box, click the appropriate option to specify where on the page the watermark will appear. UltraTax CS can print the watermark in any of the four corners or in the center of the page, and can print the watermark either horizontally or diagonally across the page. To print the watermark diagonally, you must select Center in the Position on page group box. 
  8. Click one of the Automatically select this watermark options at the bottom of the dialog to include the watermark by default in the government, client, or preparer collations of all returns.

    Note: The Action Required PDF created with certain returns will include the watermark settings for the government collation.

  9. If you are licensed for FileCabinet CS, you can include the watermark as an annotation when you print returns to that application by marking the Include watermark as an annotation when printing to FileCabinet CS checkbox.
