Question

How many years of returns does the Department of Labor (DOL) support for electronic filing?

Answer

There is no cut-off for electronic filing capabilities for prior-year returns. The DOL will accept the current year and the three prior-year plans on their respective forms. For returns four years old and prior, they must be filed on the current form. For example, 2015 plans can be filed in the 2015 version of UltraTax CS. However, 2014 plans must be filed using 2018 UltraTax CS or the IFILE system. If you are filing older plans in the current year of UltraTax CS, it is best practice that you create of copy of the client via File > Save As for each year that you are preparing in the same version. For more information, see the DOL's welcome page at https://www.efast.dol.gov/welcome.html.
