New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Associations are used to sort assets during data entry (by clicking a column heading in the Asset List window) and to enter additional information needed for UltraTax CS personal property tax returns. They may also be used to focus the list of available assets when reassigning assets or selecting assets for a mass transfer or mass disposition.

Note: UltraTax CS does not have the capability to sort reports based on associations, as can be done in Fixed Assets CS. If your firm is licensed for both UltraTax CS and Fixed Assets CS, you can print sorted Fixed Assets CS reports from within UltraTax CS.

The Association Wizard allows you to set up default association values and a default Method/Life Wizard asset class that the application should enter based on the value that you choose for the primary association during asset data entry.

Once you have set up a primary association, a Wizard Association Wizard button button appears to the right of that association field at the top of the Asset Detail dialog. When you choose an association value (by clicking the button), the application automatically enters any default association values and the asset class that you specified.

For more information, see the example of using the Association Wizard.

To set up the Association Wizard, complete the following steps.

  1. Open the Asset List window for an activity.
  2. Choose Setup > Associations to open the Associations dialog.
  3. Click the Wizard Setup button.

The application prompts you to choose a primary association for the Association Wizard. Association values will be entered for all associations based on the value you choose for the primary association.

  4. Choose the primary association value and click Continue.

The Association Wizard Setup dialog opens.

  5. In the Primary association value field, choose the association value for which you want to set default association values and Method/Life Wizard asset class for the application to enter when a particular association value is chosen for the primary association.
  6. Click the Edit button in the Default association values to group box.
  7. For each field in the Default association values to group box, choose the default association values that the application should enter when the selected association value is chosen from the Association Wizard.
    • To enter a specific association value, choose that value from the drop-down list.
    • If you do want any value to be entered for an association, choose (BLANK). This selection clears any association value that may have already existed in the field.

Note: If you do not make any selection for an association field, any association value that was already present in the field will not be cleared.

  8. Click the Enter button in the Default association values to group box.
  9. Click the Edit button in the Default Method/Life Wizard asset class to group box.
  10. In the Default Method/Life Wizard asset class to group box, for each Method/Life Wizard type that the current client uses, choose the asset class that is appropriate for the primary association value that is selected at the top of the dialog.
  11. Click the Enter button in the Default Method/Life Wizard asset class to group box.
  12. To assign default association values and Method/Life Wizard asset classes for additional primary association values, repeat steps 5 - 11.
