New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

With the consent of the taxpayer / spouse, UltraTax CS can automatically generate the taxpayer / spouse PIN by using the prior-year PIN, if available. Otherwise, UltraTax CS uses the last five digits of the taxpayer's/spouse's Social Security number. To choose this option, follow these steps.

  1. Choose Setup > Office Configuration to open the Office Configuration dialog.

Note: Depending on your security configuration, you might be prompted to enter the master password before you can open the Office Configuration dialog. The master password is specified in Setup > Security.

  2. Click the E-Filing tab.
  3. Click the ERO button.
  4. Mark the Automatically generate taxpayer(s) PIN checkbox.
  5. Click Done to close the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) dialog.

When you enter information in the Signature date field in Screen PIN, UltraTax CS automatically updates the Taxpayer PIN, Spouse PIN, and PIN authorization indicator fields if these fields are blank.

The taxpayer or spouse must sign Form 8879, IRS e-file Signature Authorization, when using this option, following the same procedure used when the ERO enters the taxpayer / spouse PIN. If the taxpayer / spouse does not consent to an automatically generated PIN, enter X in the Suppress automatic PIN generation field in Screen PIN.
