New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Use this procedure to enter apportionment data for city or other returns.

Note: UltraTax CS uses the white fields in the city and other return column(s) to complete the city's or other return's apportionment form. (For additional information on how the white fields on the Apportionment spreadsheet are combined onto the apportionment forms, refer to the Apportionment Form Combination Tables guide.) You cannot enter data in the shaded fields, which are for components that are not used on the city's or other return's apportionment form.

  1. Choose View > Apportionment to open the Apportionment Information window.

Note: You need to have a state return attached to the current client in order to open this window.

  2. Enter the state apportionment information, as required.
  3. In the state tab at the bottom of the window, click the Cities and other returns button to open the Cities and other returns dialog.

Note: You need to have a city or other return attached to the current client in order to open this dialog.

  4. Click the Property, Payroll, or Sales tab and enter apportionment information in the city or other return column for the selected factor.

Note: Some fields in the Cities and other returns dialog have statement dialogs to enter detailed information for this factor's component. UltraTax CS uses the information you enter in the Everywhere column in the statement dialog as the everywhere amount for that component. UltraTax CS ignores the amount in the Everywhere / (Override) column in the Apportionment spreadsheet for that component.

  5. If the city or other return requires additional information that cannot be entered into the Apportionment spreadsheet, use the city or other returns tab at the bottom of the dialog. (If the city or other returns do not require additional information, no city or other returns tab appears in this dialog.)
  6. If the state in which the city is located is apportioned 100 percent in-state, the city's everywhere amounts need to be entered in the respective state column of the main Apportionment spreadsheet.

Note: This needs to be done even if the state is not to be apportioned because the city columns are not part of the main spreadsheet. If the city columns were included in the main spreadsheet, the amounts you enter in the city column would be double-counted when you enter information in the state column for returns that are not 100 percent in-state.

  7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 to complete data entry for the remaining factors.
