The tax application includes the following input screens for entering Affordable Care Act information.

Health Care: Individual Responsibility Worksheet

Every individual will fall into one of the following categories.

  • Covered under minimum essential health care coverage.
  • Exempt from the requirement to have minimum essential health care coverage.
  • Does not have minimum essential health care coverage or an exemption from coverage and is required to pay a penalty.

What is minimum essential health care coverage?

Minimum essential health care coverage includes coverage under most health care coverage plans. See the Additional resources section below for details.

If the taxpayer did not have minimum essential health care coverage or a coverage exemption for one or more months, UltraTax CS will produce the Health Care: Individual Responsibility Worksheet. By default, the tax application assumes that no minimum essential coverage was obtained during the tax year. If the taxpayer’s entire family has health care coverage for the full year, select 1 (Yes) in the Entire family covered for full year with minimum essential health care coverage field on Screen Coverage in the Health Care folder. This field can also be found in Screens 1099R, SSA-1099, W2, C, F, and K1-3. If the taxpayer has an exemption from coverage enter the appropriate information on Screen Coverage in the Detail of individual health care coverage or exemption statement dialog.
