How do dependents calculate for 1040NR?

Answer

The U.S. Tax Guide for Aliens (IRS Publication 519) details which nonresident aliens can claim dependents. Students and business apprentices from India may be able to claim dependents. The application is designed to accommodate these situations and interprets dependent information you enter as qualifying to be claimed. If the taxpayer does not qualify to claim any dependents, do not enter dependent information in the Dependents statement in Screen 1040.
