Question

Why aren't the federal and state filing instructions combined even though a document format option to combine them is selected?

Answer

For clients with Delaware, Michigan Business Tax, or Ohio Generic City returns, or for clients with Print name on 2019 1040-ES vouchers selected on Screen Est, the separate taxpayer and spouse transmittal letters and filing instructions cannot be combined during printing even when the Separate Transmittal Letter, but combine federal and state Filing Instructions or Combine Transmittal Letter and Filing Instructions in letter format options is marked in the Setup > 1040 Individual > Federal tab.

If the client entity is a 1040 Domestic Partnership, the federal and state filing instructions will print separately, since a domestic partnership is not recognized for federal returns.
