New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

The standard questionnaire helps you identify specific client data that might affect the client's tax return, such as whether the client has married or has had a baby. You might want to customize the client questionnaire to incorporate specific questions directed toward a particular type of client. You can also create additional questionnaires based on the standard questionnaire.

The questionnaire that is used for the paper organizer is also used for the email organizer and any changes made to the questionnaire affect both. The web organizer questionnaire is a separate document, so any changes made to it are not reflected in the standard paper or email questionnaire and vice versa.

Creating new organizer questionnaires for paper or email organizers

To create additional questionnaires for paper or email PDF organizers, complete these steps. A new questionnaire is created that is based on the standard questionnaire. If you previously modified the standard questionnaire, your modifications also appear in the new questionnaire. You can add or delete questions as necessary. You can add up to five custom questionnaires.

  1. Choose Setup > 1040 Individual.

Note: Depending on your security configuration, you might be prompted to enter the master password to access the federal setup tabs.

  2. Click the Organizer tab.
  3. Click the Questionnaire button in the Documents group box to open the standard Organizer Questionnaire dialog.
  4. Click the New button to open the New Document dialog.
  5. In the Document name field, enter the name of the new questionnaire.
  6. If desired, select a border from the drop-down list for the Border field.
  7. Click OK to open the Document Editing window.
  8. Edit the questionnaire as desired.

Tip: To insert a checkbox, position the cursor in the appropriate location and choose Insert > Checkbox.

  9. Save changes by choosing Document > Save.
  10. Choose Document > Exit when finished.

Selecting the new questionnaire to print or email

If you want the new questionnaire (instead of the standard questionnaire) to print for or be emailed to a client, you must select the new questionnaire on the client's organizer Screen Letter.

  1. With the client's return open, choose View > Client Organizer.
  2. Open Screen Letter in the General folder.
  3. Use the Select the client organizer questionnaire version to print for this client (paper or email only) field to select this questionnaire from the drop-down list. Otherwise, the standard questionnaire prints for the client by default. (If the Select the client organizer questionnaire version to print for this client field is disabled, no custom questionnaires have been created or proforma'd from the prior-year application.)
