Follow these steps to define search criteria when you are adding or modifying a search.

Data Mining searches for clients whose data contains values compatible with search criteria you have defined. When the search criteria and search criteria relationships you have specified are true for a client's data, that client will "pass the search." The search criteria definitions you add or modify will be available for all searches of the selected database.

  1. In the Select Search Criteria dialog, select federal or the appropriate state application from the Product field.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click the Form option.

Note: When you select a form from this list, the search examines the database to find clients for whom that form was prepared. To search for clients for whom the form was not prepared, click the Form option and click the Not prepared option.

    • Click the Calculated value option or the Input screen field option, and then click the Add/Modify button to open the Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog.

Note: The Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog opens regardless of which option you choose. For more information, see Add or modify criteria that search for specific calculated values in the client's federal or state returns and Add or modify criteria that search federal or state input screen data.

    • Click the State Attachment option (available only when State is selected from the Product drop-down).

Note: When you select a state attachment from this list, the search examines the database to find clients with that state attached or not attached.

    • Click the Return type option (available only when Federal is selected from the Product drop-down).

Note: When you select a return type from this list, the search examines the database to find clients with that type of return.

    • Click the Client status option (available only when Federal is selected from the Product drop-down).

Note: When you select a status from this list, the search examines the database to find clients for whom that status has been logged or not logged. You can specify this by clicking the Logged anytime, Current status, or Not logged option. You can also click the Add/Modify button to open the Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog.
