New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Complete the appropriate task to add users to advanced security groups or to edit membership for users when advanced security options are enabled.

Note: Follow these steps only if you are using advanced security options rather than the standard options.

Adding users to advanced security groups

To add a user that you can assign to a group for the purpose of managing access to specific UltraTax CS features, follow these steps.

  1. Choose Setup > Security, enter the master password, and click the Users tab.
  2. Complete one of the following tasks.
    • If you are adding permissions for users before they open UltraTax CS, click the Add User button, enter a user ID, and mark the checkboxes for the groups to which you want to assign the user.
    • If users have already opened UltraTax, highlight the appropriate user ID in the Users tab, click the Edit User button, and then mark the checkboxes for the groups to which you want to assign the user.
    • If your firm uses a Windows network operating system, you can import users from a domain controller and assign them to advanced security groups automatically.
  3. Click OK.

Notes

  • By default, all unassigned users are assigned to the $Guests group. To assign these users to another group, see Changing default advanced security privileges for unknown users.
  • If a user belongs to more than one group, privileges that are defined in both groups will default to the highest level of access for that user.
  • Users who are members of the $Unauthorized Users group cannot belong to other groups. $Unauthorized Users are denied access to all areas of UltraTax CS. You cannot modify privilege settings for this group.
  • UltraTax CS uses the user ID from your firm's network as the new user ID, unless you are accessing UltraTax CS through Virtual Office CS. For information on how UltraTax CS user IDs are assigned in Virtual Office CS, call CS Support and choose the Web Services Support option.

Editing advanced security user membership

To edit group membership for users when advanced security options are enabled, follow these steps.

  1. Choose Setup > Security, enter the master password, and click the Users tab.
  2. In the User list, highlight the user whose group membership you want to edit.
  3. Click the Edit User button.
  4. In the Edit User dialog, edit group membership for the selected user by marking or clearing the checkboxes in the Group list.

Note: Users that are members of the $Unauthorized Users group cannot belong to other groups.

  5. Click OK to close the Edit User dialog.
