New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

When you enter override data on a form, UltraTax CS prompts you to confirm that you want to override the calculated amount. (You can disable this feature by marking the Do not show me this warning again checkbox in the message.) We strongly encourage you to enter data in the appropriate input screens rather than overriding amounts on forms. If necessary, use the Tax Subject Index to determine the input screen in which you should enter the data.

Although not recommended, you can override almost any calculated amount.

Depending in your security configuration, you might be required to enter the master password and click OK before you can enter a form override.

  • You must be in form view to enter override data.
  • When you enter override data in a form, the data appears red on the screen, so you always know which information is calculated data and which is override data.
  • When the cursor is located in a field that contains override data, the calculated data for that field is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • Click the Diagnostics Diagnostics button button (or select View > Diagnostics) to open the Diagnostics window, then click the Overrides tab to view all overridden fields.

Tips

  • To remove override data from a field and revert to the calculated data, click the field containing the override data, choose Edit > Overrides, then select Delete Override.
  • To remove all override information from the form you are currently viewing, choose Edit > Overrides, then select Delete Form Overrides. Any overridden fields on the current form will revert to the calculated data.
  • To remove all override information for the open client's entire return, choose Edit > Overrides, then select Delete All Overrides. Any overridden fields on the client's return will revert to the calculated data.
  • To override a field's data with zero, highlight the data in the field, press the spacebar, and then press ENTER. If prompted to confirm that you want to override the data, click Yes.
  • To override a field's data and leave the field blank, highlight the data in the field, press the spacebar, and then press ENTER. Then, place the cursor in the field with the overridden amount, choose Edit > Overrides > Display Zero to deselect this command.
