Setting up Web Builder CS Email in Outlook, IMAP

Show expandable text

You can access your Web Builder CS Email within Microsoft Outlook via POP or IMAP. Both POP and IMAP allow you to download your email from the Web Builder CS Email servers. Each have their advantages. POP is simple to set up and use. IMAP is better for those who access their mail from multiple devices because it allows for two-way communication between Web Builder CS Email and Outlook. For example, when using IMAP, if you read a message on one device, it will instantly show as read on the other device.

Optional: Change IMAP Folder Subscriptions

By default, an IMAP account is an exact copy of the email stored on the Web Builder Email servers.  Whatever folders and email you have available on the web (webmail.webbuildersolution.com) is what you will see in Outlook.  This default setting is appropriate for most customers, but Outlook does allow to you change this default behavior. For example, customers with large volumes of mail or many folders may find that Outlook takes too long to sync their mail.  To increase folder sync performance in Outlook, change your IMAP Folders subscriptions.

Follow these steps for subscribe to folders to sync.

  1. Right click on the account in the navigation pane.
  2. Select "IMAP Folders..."
    imapfolder
  3. Click the Query button.
    imapquery
  4. Select any folder you do not want Outlook to sync, click Unsubscribe, and click Apply.  These folders will remain on your Web Builder Email account, but Outlook will no longer attempt to sync them. Return here at any time to re-subscribe.
  5. Click OK.

Notes:

Port 25 will be Discontinued. To enable a more secure email hosting platform, Web Builder Email is phasing out port 25 connections for SMTP. Port 25 will remain open to support existing customers, but it is not recommended as it is not secure by default and is widely blocked by major ISPs. If you must use port 25, select TLS as the encryption type to ensure a more secure connection.

To promote the most secure protocol, we recommend port 587 with a TLS connection. Port 465 will work with SSL; however, it won’t work for TLS.

Alternate Port for Outgoing Server (SMTP)

If STARTTLS over port 587 is not working for customers, try “SSL/TLS” over port 465.  But be aware, this SSL/TLS option may be removed in a future update.

Outlook Errors due to Wrong Encryption / Port Combination

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the ecryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.
