Using Mozilla Thunderbird with CS Professional Suite Applications

Show expandable text

When using Mozilla Thunderbird as your default mail client and trying to send email from a CS Professional Suite application, you may receive the following message: "No default email client setup or the default mail client cannot process request."

This message is received, because Mozilla Thunderbird does not support the extended MAPI messaging interface that CS Professional Suite applications use by default. However, Thunderbird does support simple MAPI, which can be used with some modifications.

In order to use Thunderbird instead of Microsoft Outlook or Windows Mail, the following steps must be completed:

  1. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
  2. Select Advanced Settings.
  3. On the Advanced Settings tab, select Environment Variables.
  4. Under User Variables, click New.
  5. Enter the following information:
    • Variable Name: csiforcesimplemapi
    • Variable Value: 1
  6. Close all windows and reboot the machine.

Note: When setting up Thunderbird with these modifications, CS Professional Suite applications will generate the following message when trying to send emails: "Message will be sent using simple MAPI." This message cannot be turned off.
