The Chart of Accounts mask is the key to defining all accounts for the client. The mask must be set up before you can add accounts to the Chart of Accounts or enter transactions in the application.

General rules for the Chart of Accounts mask and segments

Before you can add accounts to a client's Chart of Accounts, you must first set up the Chart of Accounts mask in the Setup > Clients > Account Mask tab using the following rules.

  • The account mask must be between 3 and 60 characters in length. The default mask for new clients is XXXXXXXXXX (10 Xs).
  • Only the following characters may be used in the mask.
    Symbol Character
    A Alpha characters only
    # Numeric characters only
X Any character, separator, or space
  • The account mask may contain up to 20 segments, and each segment may have an unlimited number of codes. All characters in a segment must be the same. (For example, AAA or ####.)
  • For segments consisting of X or # characters - if you do not enter all of the characters in the segment, the application pads that segment of the account number with zeroes. For segments consisting of A characters, you must enter all characters in the segment.
  • Only the predefined separators in the drop-down list may be used for the Chart of Accounts mask. An account number cannot end with a separator.
