You may choose to license a CBS client who is using Client Bookkeeping Solution version 2001.5.13 or higher for multi-user access to their company data.

  • For a client with the single-user version of CBS (that is, without the multi-user license option), only one user at a time may access a given company database.
  • The multi-user license enables simultaneous access to a single company's database. The multi-user license applies to all of the client's licensed CBS modules and enables all CBS users within the client's office to open the company database simultaneously and (within the limits of their security passwords) to use all licensed modules in multi-user mode.

If your company database is licensed for multi-user access and the data will be shared by multiple users, you must take the following precautions to ensure data integrity and to prevent irreparable damage to the CBS company database:

    • Run the Windows operating system on the file server (the machine on which the shared company data is stored) and on any machine that will access that data in multi-user mode.
    • Disable the opportunistic locking feature on the file server. For further information, please read the DBENV.TXT file (in the folder where the CBS application is installed, typically c:\program files\client bookkeeping solution).

Special information about CBS multi-user features

The CBS help files are stored locally on each machine on which CBS is installed. Therefore, any help bookmarks or annotations created on one computer are not automatically available for multi-user access.
