Engagement CS integrates with Microsoft Excel to allow you to edit and create workpapers and link CSA trial balance information within Excel workpapers from within the Engagement CS workspace, or when Excel is launched separately from Engagement CS.

When you open Excel from within Engagement CS, you can take advantage of the Engagement CS pull-down menu and variable toolbar. With Engagement CS you can combine Excel's formatting and calculation features while simultaneously linking to CSA client data. See Opening an Excel workpaper.

Special information

• You can copy existing Excel workpapers into the Engagement CS workspace to take advantage of the Engagement CS pull-down menu and variable toolbar.
• You can choose File > New > Document to open the Create Workpaper wizard and select to customize a workpaper to open in Excel or select to add an existing file into Engagement CS.
• You can choose File > New > Document to insert a new Bank Excel workpaper.
• To retain all of the Excel functionality with Engagement CS, you can copy an existing Excel workpaper into Engagement CS, and then choose File > New > Document to open the Create Workpaper wizard, and mark the External file (Excel, Word, and other files) option. On the Create page of the Create Workpaper wizard you can choose whether or not you want to link the document to the trial balance.   Note: When you open an existing workpaper from Engagement CS, a copy of the workbook that includes the links to CSA client data will be available. The original Excel workbook will remain intact in the original location. You can open only one Excel document in the Engagement CS workspace at a time.

• Microsoft Excel integration with Engagement CS and Trial Balance CS enables you to define and extract the following data from the current CSA client into your Excel workpaper.

  Text Variables

  • Grouping Schedule codes and subcodes
  • Engagement Date
  • Grouping Code/Subcode Descriptions
  • Additional Amounts entered in CSA
  • Account Numbers
  • Workpaper Name
  • Account Descriptions
  • Workpaper Reference
  • Client text variables (Client ID, Client Name, Client Address)
  • Workpaper Signoff information

  Amount Variables

  • Balances by Individual Account
  • Balances by Grouping Code and Subcode
  • Balances by Account Groups
  • Journal Entry amounts
  • Additional amounts entered in CSA

  Note: Amount variables can be selected for different bases, for periods, years, and departments and locations.
