A sample payroll client is automatically installed along with Payroll CS. To open the payroll sample client, do the following:

  1. Choose File > Open Client.
  2. In the Open Client dialog, double-click CSPAY01 (in the Client ID column) or Payroll Sample Client (in the Client Name column).

Note: The Open Client dialog displays the ID and name for all client databases that already exist in the specified data folder. Directly above the client list is a search box field, which enables you to quickly find a particular client. Click either the Client ID or the Client Name column-heading button to indicate which column you want to search in and then enter the first few characters of the client's ID or name. The application automatically highlights the first match in the client list.

  3. When the payroll sample client opens, its client ID appears in the title bar and the shortcut bar appears at the left of the main window.
  4. Choose File > Save As, enter a new ID for the payroll sample client, and then click OK. This will enable you to enter and save transactions and still maintain the original CSPAY01 for the next user in your office.
  5. Using your copy of the payroll sample client, you may now practice entering setup information (including employee templates and employee setup information), entering payroll and vendor checks, printing checks and reports, and so forth.
